This year marks our 41st anniversary and we will be honouring the occasion with a fundraising gala on Friday November 9th, 2018.

The Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (CCVT) is a non-profit organization that supports and aids survivors of torture to overcome the lasting effects of torture and war. CCVT offers several programs including settlement and mental health services, children and youth programs, and language and skills training programs.

This year marks our 41st anniversary and we will be honouring the occasion with a fundraising gala on Friday November 9th, 2018 at the Old Mill Inn in Toronto. The event’s Master of Ceremonies will be Adrienne Arsenault, who co-hosts CBC’s The National. Keynote speaker is MP Arif Virani. Live auction by Olivia Chow, as well as a silent auction with such items as an acoustic guitar signed by Bob Dylan and Beatles record album signed by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr! Live performance by Jazz musician, Donné Roberts and DJ Carlos will finish off the night with music sure to get everyone up and dancing.

Cocktails at 6:30pm, followed by Dinner and Reception at 8:00pm.

Adrienne Arsenault hosts The National, alongside Rosemary Barton, Andrew Chang and Ian Hanomansing.

Emmy Award-winning journalist Adrienne Arsenault has been a senior correspondent for The National since 1999, deployed to the biggest breaking news stories and investigative stories in Canada and around the world.



After a rewarding fourteen-year legal career advocating for human rights and access to justice as a constitutional litigator, former Ugandan Asian refugee Arif Virani, is now proud to serve the community and country he calls home, as the Member of Parliament for Parkdale-High Park, and as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. Arif has an Honours B.A. in History and Political Science from McGill University, and completed his LL.B at the University of Toronto.

Arif lives and volunteers in Parkdale – High Park; he is a member of the Redwood Shelter for abused women, regularly helps at the Parkdale Food Bank, is an active volunteer with Roncyworks and has led community efforts to address mental health stigma.

For over thirty years, Olivia Chow has been an effective and well-known public figure, serving in Toronto’s municipal politics and on the national stage as a Canadian Member of Parliament. She was voted Best City Councillor seven times by readers of NOW magazine and Best MP in 2010. Readers of the Toronto Sun voted her Top Torontonian in 2012 and Canadian Immigrant magazine named her as one of Canada’s Top 25 Immigrants.
