Settlement Services

Getting settled in a new country is tough at the best of times. For survivors of torture and maltreatment, it’s even harder. Post-traumatic stress, grief, worry about family members back home – these are just some of the extra challenges they face.

CCVT’s settlement team helps refugees overcome these challenges, and start building a new life.

BUILDING TRUST

Always, the first step is trust. Building it requires skill, time and patience. We do more than fill out forms or provide information and referrals. We spend time with our clients, building relationships and providing non-intrusive personal attention. Once there is a relationship of trust, we can help solve misunderstandings, mediate conflicts, facilitate access to services, validate stories of torture, and support our clients in times of personal crisis.

THE RIGHT HELP AT THE RIGHT TIME

We offer a range of settlement services, tailored to each client’s individual needs. These include:

  • Orientation and information
  • Interpretation and translation services
  • Individual support counselling
  • Employment counselling and computer training
  • Referrals to outside resources, including housing, social services, legal and medical help, skills training, cultural groups, and recreational programs
  • Peer-support groups
