CCVT Volunteer Program

CCVT needs your help! Volunteers are a vital part of the work we do at CCVT. Without them, we simply could not run many of our programs, or serve as many people as we do.

Youth Mentorship Openings

The Youth Mentorship program is always in demand of volunteers. To become a Youth Mentor you must be at least 21 years of age, reside in the GTA, agree to a one-year commitment (at least 4 hours a month) and be willing to complete the required documentation (i.e. police clearance) as well as participate in training. VOLUNTEERING AT CCVT

The Befriending Program

Befrienders are volunteers who provide non-professional support to survivors of torture. Volunteers commit to meeting with a survivor one-on-one for three hours a week, away from CCVT offices. The goal is to develop a friendship, provide a sense of community, and help the survivor adjust to life in a new country.

Interpreting / Accompanying

Volunteers accompany clients to appointments with doctors, social service agencies, lawyers and other specialists, usually weekdays during office hours.

ESL Tutoring

Volunteer tutors meet with a client for an hour once a week, to help them practice their oral and written English skills. Professional ESL training is not a requirement for volunteers.

Public Education

Volunteers deliver presentations and workshops, help out at career/volunteer fairs, and attend other events to increase CCVT’s visibility.

Reception/Admin Support

Assist in the office at reception or by working on business and organization based tasks. Typically for reception the shift are from 9-1pm and 1-5 pm, Monday to Friday. Gain valuable admin experience as well as client relations.

Other Volunteer Opportunities include:

• After-School Program (one day a week, 3:00-5:00 p.m.)
• Assisting in ESL classes
• Fundraising (requires some fundraising experience)
• Helping out at social events such as holiday parties, picnics, volunteer nights, etc.
• Serving on the Volunteer Advisory Committee, which works on projects to improve the volunteering program
