Public Education Program

CCVT is an international leader in research and education on the effects of torture and the treatment of survivors.

Our Public Education goals:

  • Raise public awareness of torture and organized violence
  • Improve the services available to survivors
  • Expand the network of social service agencies working with survivors of torture, both across Canada and around the world

Our Public Education program includes:

  • Publications such as First Light
  • Seminars and workshops conducted locally, across Canada, and at conferences internationally
  • Collaborating with researchers at the University of Toronto, York University, Ryerson University and others
  • Providing consultation and information to community groups, researchers, professionals and students
  • Working closely with Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB), the United Nations High Commission on Refugees, refugee law firms, and faculties of social work, medicine and law
  • Taking part in efforts to promote government policies that meet the needs of survivors of torture and their families

Public Education & Newsletters
