Public Education Program
CCVT is an international leader in research and education on the effects of torture and the treatment of survivors.
Our Public Education goals:
- Raise public awareness of torture and organized violence
- Improve the services available to survivors
- Expand the network of social service agencies working with survivors of torture, both across Canada and around the world
Our Public Education program includes:
- Publications such as First Light
- Seminars and workshops conducted locally, across Canada, and at conferences internationally
- Collaborating with researchers at the University of Toronto, York University, Ryerson University and others
- Providing consultation and information to community groups, researchers, professionals and students
- Working closely with Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB), the United Nations High Commission on Refugees, refugee law firms, and faculties of social work, medicine and law
- Taking part in efforts to promote government policies that meet the needs of survivors of torture and their families
